Spiritual Development
Spiritual development
Spirituality at St Saviour's Church of England Primary School can be understood as a universal human trait that involves seeking a sense of purpose and meaning in our everyday lives. In keeping with our Christian Vision, we recognise that this often becomes particularly important when we face challenging experiences (ow moments), like the followers of Jesus during the storm. This provides us with chances for reflection and an opportunity to show courage. This journey sparks curiosity and new ideas (wow moments), encouraging pupils to think deeply about questions related to life, ethics, and their role in the world around them.
Spirituality is present wherever we ponder how our lives fit into the larger picture, helping us to develop a better understanding of ourselves and fostering consideration towards others. By nurturing this sense of spirituality, we create a supportive community, laying the groundwork for our students' lifelong learning and personal development.
- Self-awareness: Understanding oneself, developing personal values and beliefs.
- Relationships: Empathy, respect and connectedness with others.
- Awe and Wonder: Appreciation of beauty, nature, art, and human achievement.
- Beyond the Self: A connection to something greater, such as community, nature or faith.
We aim to enhance the children’s spiritual development through:
- our Core Values, worship, reinforcing positive behaviour – we will help the children to develop a respect for themselves and others
- creating an environment of trust, care and compassion
- enhancing the children’s appreciation for truth, love, goodness and wonder in our delivery of the curriculum as a whole in our Church of England school where, as a staff, we seek to support one another in this goal
- seeking to help the children to understand how the impact of their feelings and emotions affects their behaviour and impacts on the feelings and emotions of others
- the Behaviour Policy and Anti Bullying Policy which provide a clear moral code that is promoted consistently throughout the school and is reinforced through classroom rules and acceptable playground behaviour
- praise and reward for good behaviour and action which reflect our core Christian values
- reinforcing the school’s values through whole school and classroom displays
