Courageous Advocacy

At St. Saviour’s, courageous advocacy is an area we are beginning to develop as part of our wider vision of fostering a strong sense of community and belonging. Just as Jesus calmed the storm, we aim to create an environment of calmness, safety and reassurance—one that reaches beyond our school gates and into the local community. We are committed to nurturing an inclusive and supportive space where every individual feels valued and is equipped to journey with us through both the storms and the calm of life.

As we grow in this area, we are helping children recognise that they can make a positive difference, through small, thoughtful actions. Pupils are encouraged to notice the needs of others, speak up for what is right and take practical steps to care for the world around them. One of the first initiatives emerging from this work is being led by our School Council, who are planning future litter‑picking events within our local community. Their aim is to care for the environment we all share and to show that positive change often begins with simple acts of responsibility and kindness.

Our Year 5 children are also beginning to show courageous advocacy through outreach in local care homes. Inspired by their own family connections, they visit St. Michael’s Care Home each week to read with residents and play games. These visits reflect our Christian vision of bringing a calm, caring presence to others—just as Jesus calmed the storm. By offering companionship and kindness, pupils help residents feel valued while learning the importance of compassion, dignity and shared belonging.

Through opportunities like these, our pupils are beginning to understand what it means to be courageous advocates: individuals who act with compassion, integrity and hope, helping our community to flourish and reflecting the calm, steady presence we seek to embody as a school.
